The name of my experiment was "Ocean Care, with your hair!" My aim was to determine wether human and animal hair are efficient oil absorbers. So basically what I did was see which hair type would absorb the most oil, I used Natural/untreated human hair, Dyed/treated human hair and animal hair. In the end Natural hair absorbed the most oil, it absorbed 20ml of the 25ml of oil that was put into the glass, more than it did when I tested it.
I have no idea what kind of experiment to do but I knew I didn't want to do something to simple. I found this experiment after about 1 hour of searching. It turns out that two boys did this experiment in 2009 and won silver at science fair.
I chose this experiment as I knew that this could help the oceans if this method of absorbing oil is used in the future.
I chose to work on my own as I didn't want to have to make time to see my partner. Working by yourself isn't that difficult, you just need to spend more time practicing it, I suggest you try going by yourself.
I left the hair types for much longer than I should've, I was supposed to only leave it in for 5 minutes. I left it in for 10-15 minutes. In the end it worked out as all the hair types absorbed more oil than they did when I tested it at home. The judge for our class was Mrs Jones, she was very nice. She didn't ask me any questions as she said I had answered all her questions in my presentation. If I can give you some advice, I advise you to answer any questions that she may ask you in your presentation and don't forget to add some extra info if you can.
My experiment went well but I forget to say some words at times.
I was extremely happy with my poster, I thought it was neat and simple.
I was very nervous on the Expo Day but I still carried on.
Thanks for reading!
